New Scheme To Help Residents Reduce Waste Launches

We are excited to announce the launch of Rethink Waste, a scheme that incentivises Elmbridge, Surrey Heath, Woking and Mole Valley residents to reduce their waste and help the planet.

Residents sign up online and will receive a personalised dashboard where they will be able to access relevant activities and resources and monitor their progress. Once signed up, members will receive weekly emails, which will include an array of locally relevant, engaging and gamified activities such as pledges, videos and quizzes, designed to nudge residents towards small, yet impactful lifestyle changes.

By taking part and engaging with content members receive points, which can be used to enter competitions for exciting prizes like iPads and TVs, make donations to charities or support local schools. Schools that take part could be in line to receive funding from the scheme to run an environmental project benefiting the school and its pupils.

The launch of the scheme follows a successful trial in one area of Surrey that took place in 2022-23. The trial saw content engaged with 27,000 times with 98% of those surveyed saying they would carry on reducing their waste in the future and nearly 10% fewer people reporting that their rubbish bin was typically full or nearly full since taking part.

Rethink Waste is being delivered by SEP, which is a partnership of all the councils in Surrey set up to deliver projects to reduce waste and increase recycling across the county. It is being run in collaboration with Greenredeem, an organisation that provides digital engagement platforms to provoke environmental behaviour change.

Residents can take part in Rethink Waste now by signing up online at www.greenredeem.co.uk/rethink-waste
